What is a 360?

A 360 appraisal is an alternative form of feedback to a traditional one-to-one assessment with a line manager. Rather than composing an evaluation from the feedback of one individual, a 360 appraisal collects information from a number of sources throughout the workplace. Upon undertaking a 360 appraisal, both you and your colleagues will be provided with a questionnaire which aims to collect a variety of information about yourself and the various aspects of your work. The data from the completed questionnaires then forms a report which provides analysis of your current performance across twelve categories. The aim of the report is to offer comprehensive information regarding the areas in which you are strongest, as well as those in which you may look to improve upon as part of your continued professional development.

What are the benefits of a 360?

Because a 360 appraisal consults a number of individuals in your workplace, the feedback you receive contains an array of views and opinions which form a comprehensive description of your performance. An individual assessment with a line manager will not typically produce such nuanced feedback. Furthermore, a 360 appraisal takes into account the work and relationships you may have in your workplace which your line manager may not necessarily be aware of, encouraging a more open working environment and acknowledging all of the work that you undertake with stakeholders.
